I would like to highlight what we will be doing in class for the next three weeks. First of all, we will be finishing our Science presentations. So far, ten students showed their projects to the class. If you wish to see your son/daughter presenting, please let me know and I will try to arrange a suitable time for you to come.
In Math, we will be continuing to learn strategies to better understand big numbers. Sheryl Adabar will come in our class for two more Math lessons to support us with these new strategies.
In Social Studies, we have been learning about Aboriginal's relationship to the environment. In order to give my students a better understanding of First Nations, I have decided to organize a trip to the Cambell River museum. We will be going on November 23. I have also reserved a time to go to the Strathcona pool in C.R. Your child will bring home a permission letter that will explain everything. The letter will have to be signed and returned to school

On Monday we will be starting our 3D snowflakes to decorate the gym. It will probable take a few days to make them as they are intricate.
In Math, we will focus on multiplication and its relationship with repeated additions.

On December 9, there will be a jingle bell run for the whole school. It would be greatly appreciated if you son/daughter brought a small food item for the food bank.
We will be leaving at around 9:00 and returning at 10:15.

Dear parents,
Our class is beginning an English Language Arts unit called "Sound". In this unit, students will discover a wealth of information about sound. They will learn how sound waves travel, how sound is used for alarms, interesting facts about sound (such as the noisiest animal in the world), how some people with low vision use sound to help them get around, and how musical instruments work.

. Checking for comprehension of texts
. Writing interesting paragraphs about sound

Here are ways that you can support your child's learning during this unit:

I would like to highlight the learning outcomes for the next tow weeks:
1. In Social Studies the students will learn how to describe and compare two Aboriginal cultures in BC(e.g., local cultures, BC coastal cultures, interior region cultures) and in other regions of Canada (e.g., plains, Inuit, Athabascan, Iroquoian, eastern woodlands, Metis)
2. They will also learn to describe some of the effects of early contact on European explorers and settlers (e.g., Aboriginal guides and mapping helped explorers; Aboriginal peoples provided clothing, food, medicine, and other materials for survival in an unfamiliar environment)
3. In math they will learn to create and solve a word problem involving a 1 or 2 digit dividend; they will solve a given division problem with a remainder strategy and record the process.
4. In Science they will compare the properties of sound and light; they will make a detailed local weather report based on collected data.
5. In French writing, the students will learn to infer and to ask thoughtful questions.

I would like to highlight the Learning outcomes for the next two weeks.
In Math, the students will learn fractions and will review bar graphs. They will also become familiar with the program called Success Maker.
In Reading, I will start a literacy circle in order to help the students to improve their reading skills. In addition, we will continue practicing infering and questioning to deepen their understanding of texts.
In Social Studies, the students will learn about European explorers and will start resarching one or two explorers to make a presentation.
In Art, the students will continue working on their totem pole paintings. They will also learn to make a drum and paint it. It will be auctioned during our Art show beginning of May.
